The Building DesignerFabTrk's parametric designer: from a spec to a framed 3D building, a bill of materials, GA sheets, and an IFC model, and what publishing a design actually does.The Designer turns a parametric spec into a building: enter the geometry, and FabTrk generates the frame, the secondary steel, the cladding, a bill of materials, a starter drawing set, and a 3D model you can walk around in the browser. This guide covers what it does, what publishing means, and, just as important, what it is not. From spec to steel A design starts with the numbers that define a pre engineered metal building: width, length, eave height, roof profile and pitch, bay spacing, and openings. From those, the Designer generates: Primary frames : rigid frames and endwall frames with real catalog sections. Secondary steel : purlins, girts, eave struts, and bracing, laid out per bay. Cladding and openings : roof and wall sheeting with doors, windows, and louvers cut through, placeable and resizable in the 3D view. A live 3D preview : the building as you shape it, in your shop's finish colors. Multiple roof profiles are supported, and the Designer is explicit about which profiles its engineering checks stand behind: a profile the engine cannot analyze is flagged rather than silently accepted, and drawings will not publish for it. Design checks As you work, the engine runs structural checks against the spec's loads (gravity, snow including rain on snow surcharge, wind, and rain) and reports demand capacity ratios on the members. A member that has not been analyzed shows as exactly that: not analyzed, never a false green. The point of the checks is honest feedback while you shape the building, catching a span that plainly does not work before anyone spends real engineering time on it. What publishing does Publish is the moment a design stops being a sketch and becomes a job. One action does three things: Writes the BOM into tracking : every generated piece becomes a tracked part with its mark, profile, length, and computed weight, feeding the same Fab/Fit/Weld/QC pipeline an imported package feeds. Generates the drawing set : GA sheets (framing plans, sheeting plans, elevations, anchor bolt plan, cross section) and one drawing per assembly, filed into the project's documents at Rev 0, In Review. Exports the IFC model : a real IFC file with proper steel profiles, mounted as the project's 3D model and usable in any IFC aware tool downstream. Publishing is idempotent: republish after a change and the generated parts and sheets are replaced cleanly, not duplicated. What the Designer is not The Designer is a preliminary design and quoting tool, not a stamped engineering package. Generated drawings are drafts for review; anchor bolt data appears only when the analysis actually produced reactions (never from assumptions); and a real building needs a licensed engineer's review and stamp for permit and construction.
